Trevor Noah: Born a Crime
We often hear a line, “Behind the smile of a person is everything you will never understand”. The book is a biography of a guy who lived a sensible way of life without any rules, Trevor Noah, Son of Patricia Noah. Patricia fell in love with a german dude during apartheid and gave birth to Trevor Noah, who himself calls him a Born a Crime.
Initially, I never thought I would read this book but when I watched Trevor’s stand-up comedy on youtube correlated to her mother who was gun-shot by his step-father, I was curious to dig through his biography.
Some of the famous lines that I like are as follows and the bold one are the best one
- We spend so much time being afraid of failure, afraid of rejection. But regret is the think we should fear most. Failure is an answer. Rejection is an answer. Regret is an eternal question you will never have the answer to “What if…….””If only…..” “What would have…..” you will never, never know and it will haunt you for the rest of the days.
- I was blessed with another trait I inherited from my mother, her ability to forget the pain in life.
- Language, even more than color, defines who you are to people.
- You don’t own what you love
- The first thing I learned about having money was that it gives you choices. People don’t want to be rich. They want to be able to choose. The richer you are, the more choices you have. That is the freedom of money.
- Comfort can be dangerous. Comfort provides a floor but also a ceiling.
- My mom did what school didn’t. She taught me how to think.
- A dog is a great thing for a kid to have. It’s like a bicycle but with emotions.
- The world doesn’t love you. If the police get you, the police don’t love you. When I beat you, I’m trying to save you. When they beat you, they’re trying to kill you.
